The Alpujarras
is often described variously as either Spain's best kept secret
or Europe's Himalayas. A visit to this region
is always a memorable experience thanks to the fact that the
Alpujarras are overlooked by the Sierra Nevada mountain range
which is often snow capped for several months of the year.
Here you will find mainland Spain's highest mountain
"Mulhacen" rising spectacularly to almost
12,000 feet.
Due to it's unrivalled position
Cortijo Las Chumbas enjoys one of the most spectacular views
of "Mulhacen" and the Sierra Nevada.
This entire region has been declared a Natural Park and Biosphere
Reserve by UNESCO.
Authors such as Gerald Brenan who wrote "South from Granada"
also Chris Stewart, the author of the extremely successful
books, "Driving over Lemons" a "Parrot in a
Pear Tree", and more recently "The Almond Blossom
Appreciation Society" were inspired whilst living and
